Dirk Rotenberg arrived in Kuwait City on July 1, 2026 to take office as the Head of the German Embassy to the State of Kuwait.

The Ambassador joined the German Diplomatic Service in 1992 after completing his Legal Studies. At Auswärtiges Amt – Germany’s Foreign Ministry - he served at the Legal Dept. as well as the Dept. of UN- Affairs and the Dept. of International Economic Relations.

His foreign destinations include the German Embassies in Brasília, Madrid and Ankara and the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York. He was serving at Germany’s Consul General in Barcelona, Spain, until 2025. Before he took office in Kuwait he was posted to the German Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Rotenberg is married and father to one adult daughter.
